We have SL4NT 3.2 installed in about 15 servers

periodically we notice the following message in the server's application

log:

Event Type: Error

Event Source: SL4NT

Event Category: None

Event ID: 11

Date: 9/12/2005

Time: 12:49:20 PM

User: N/A

Computer: WDNS005

Description:

An error occurred in binding a socket to any/UDP. WinSockets Error: 10055 -

An operation on a socket could not be performed because the system lacked

sufficient buffer space or because a queue was full.

either resetting the service or rebooting the server fixes the problem

temporarily but it comes back every once in a while

is this a problem or limitation on the SL4NT service or is this a windows

2000 problem..

any one else seen this message? Franz can you explain what it means?

thanks in advance,

Hello Aaron,

this error happens when SL4NT tries to create and then bind a socket to a

dynamic port for sending forwarded syslog messages. The error code 10055

indicates a resource problem with non-paged kernel memory or that because of

too many open sockets, the system runs out of available dynamic ports

because by default only the range 1024 to 5000 is available.

See for more information:

Please try to increase the MaxUserPort value.
