Have been using product for 3 years and suddenly we have begun to receive an

NT 4.0 Event ID: 35, Source SL4NT with Description SMTP service is not ready

to accept mail. Anyone else encountered the same problem? Help would be

greatly appreciated.

SL4NT version 1.4/using Mircrosoft SMTP service on the box (WinNT4.0 sp6a+)

on which SL4NT is installed; connecting to an Exchange 5.5 server.

Carolyn,

which version of SL4NT are you using and what software are you using as

SMTP-server for receiving SMTP messages from the SL4NT service?

Carolyn,

SL4NT 1.4 waits only 10 seconds after connecting to the SMTP server for the

initial greeting of the SMTP server (220 ...). In case that the SMTP server

is configured to perform reverse DNS resolution of the connecting client, it

can take more than 10 seconds before the SMTP server replies.

A DNS problem is probably causing this slow response from the SMTP server.

You can use Telnet to verify if my suspicion is correct.

You should upgrade to the current version v3.1 (the upgrade is free!). This

version has a default timeout of 30 seconds. This timeout value can be

configured in the registry, should an even higher value be necessary.

You should upgrade to v3.1 anyway, even if you solve the (suspected) DNS

problem.
